Javier Gonzalez

As a dancer and choreographer, Javier's work has been featured in venues across Europe and North America including Spain, Italy, Finland, the Czech Republic, in Mexico, where he represented the United States at La Imba International Dance Competition, New York, California, Illinois, Nevada, Florida, Arizona and Utah.  Along the way, he has garnered 1st and 2nd place awards for choreography, modern jazz and modern dance at the Barcelona, Prague and Venice Dance Prix Competitions in 2002, 2004 and 2005.  At the Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival, Javier was recognized with the Coeta Baker Award for Outstanding Choreography.

In his 20 years as a dancer, Javier has trained and performed with a diverse group of companies and choreographers including the Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre, Kelly Roth and Dancers, Metropolitan Ballet, Regina Klenjowski Dance Company, Grandeza Mexicana Ballet Folk Company, Sol de Mexico Ballet Folklorico, Jose Costas Dance Company, Murray Louis, Risa Steinberg and Royal Caribbean International Cruise Lines.  His aesthetic interests blend ballet, jazz and modern dance with nuances of Limon, Graham, Cunningham and Fosse.

He has also apperared on the Q Television Network and has been featured in films such as "El Chicano" and "Hotel California".  Javier recently completed a seven month residency in Helsinki, Finland, where his choreography was featured on Finland's OLLO Televsion Network.

Currently, Javier is one of the directors and is co-founder of Moxie Dance Collective.  Since it's premiere performance in July 2007, the company has already won the Producer's Choice Award at the MAD BAD Dance Performance Festival in Concord, CA and the Las Vegas Weekly Press stated "Company choreographer Javier Gonzalez, is a gifted storyteller.  The work was sexy, strong and poignant." Javier teaches at Renaissance High School for the Arts; he is a regular choreographer for Golden West College and several community events in Southern California, where he makes his home. "I love dance because it provokes thought and feeling.  It is like an old language that everyone can understand and relate to.  It has given a sense of direction to my life and a feeling that I am doing my part in the world."
