Flight of the Imagination - Recommended for elementary age students

The powerful influences of the world cultures have had a great effect on our country today – especially in dance, art and music.  Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre, with their colorful costumes, stories and delightful music, transports the audience around our global world of dance.  Experience the images of the various cultures we visit whether it is a real city in a foreign country, a town in the U.S, or even a mythical place perhaps in ancient times or in outer space. Repertoire in the program may change, but will always relate to geographic and cultural ideas.  Volunteers from the audience will participate on stage about 2 or 3 times during the program with the company in basic moves. Students are encouraged to ask questions and discuss the program at the end of the performance.  Schools will receive a study guide to prepare children prior to viewing the performance that includes follow-up movement activities.  This 60-minute performance combines geography, history, arts and culture to enhance school curriculum.  The company performs this show to thousands of students throughout the school year.

The company needs a stage or large multipurpose room to perform this program.  The dimensions of the stage area should be a minimum of 25’ wide by 22’ deep with preferably a wood floor.  A microphone and sound system with CD player is required.

High School Lecture/Demonstration – DANCE: The Creative Process

This program introduces the procedures of a professional dance company.  It describes the training of the dancers and how they prepare for performance.  From the point of view of the choreographer, the audience sees the development of a dance from an idea to a movement phrase to a completed dance.  Students are introduced to the techniques of dance, improvisation and composition.  Audience members may be invited to the stage to participate in an improvisation with the dance company members.  The Creative Process in dance is then compared to the creative process of other art forms.  This performance is suitable for an assembly about careers in the arts.  Discussion with the director, company members and audience concludes the performance.

The company needs a stage or large room like a gym to perform this program.  The dimensions of the stage area should be a minimum of 30’ wide by 25’ deep with preferably a wood floor.  A microphone and sound system with CD player is required plus a student or stage crew to operate the system.  Stage lighting for the performance is recommended.
